The farm features both big and small game. White tail deer frequent the wooded areas and graze in the hay fields. Wisconsin deer hunting season currently consists of a combination of deer-gun, deer-bow, muzzle loader and sometimes special seasons in an attempt to control the deer herd population. Since these seasons vary from year to year, it is best to contact the Wisconsin DNR regarding the latest regulations. They may be reached at http://www.dnr.state.wi.us. Trempealeau County is adjacent to and has much the same terrain as Buffalo County which is famous for it's big bucks. The largest buck taken on the farm recently weighed well over two hundred pounds field dressed, had eight points with an inside spreads of 21". Some of the land owners are trying to encourage hunters to pass by smaller bucks to give them a chance to grow into a better trophy. Currently the deer population is high, so permits to take does are available. The other major hunting opportunity are turkeys. Wisconsin has a Spring and Fall hunt. The turkeys on the farm utilize the same wooded areas and graze in the fields much as do the deer, however, there doesn't appear to be any conflict between the two species and both are at all time high populations. The turkeys seem to migrate from area to area in small flocks. Most of the past hunting pressure for turkeys on the farm has been in the Spring. Other hunting opportunities include ruffed grouse which are just past the high point of their population cycle, gray and red squirrel, and a few rabbits from time to time. Predator hunting for fox and coyote is also available, however, the coyotes are nomadic and are not consistently in the area.
